Description: | Aims: This unit focuses on the development and facilitation of creativity in children. It will examine practice and the curriculum with regards to fostering creativity and the challenges this brings. It will consider government initiatives and the impact this has on the curriculum. Learning Outcomes: * Devise a curriculum which promotes children's creativity. * Reflect on practitioner's own creative approach. * Apply theories relating to creative teaching, learning and apply these to an enabling environment. * Demonstrate and appraise recognised techniques for assessing creativity. * Identify and evaluate a range of equipment and materials which promote the development of children's creativity. Content: This unit examines the importance of creativity and imagination. Definitions of creativity and imagination will be discussed. The development of creativity and imagination in children will be explored. Current practice, theory and research will be critically examined and evaluated, with particular reference to Craft, Bruce, Duffy and Vygotsky. Students will develop an understanding of planning, assessing and resourcing for creativity whilst reflecting on their practice. The challenges of creating an innovative curriculum will be analysed. |
