Description: | Aims: This module aims to provide students with an introduction to contemporary social work practice & its organisational context & to provide practical experience that enables students to explore and develop their understanding of social work values. Learning Outcomes: On completion of the unit the students should be able to: * Prepare for social work contact & involvement (Key Role 1 Unit 1 Elements 1.1 - 1.3) * Describe the range of local resources & services available (Knowledge indicator 2f) * Be aware of their own values, prejudices, ethical dilemmas & conflicts of interest & their implications on their practice (Knowledge indicator 3a) * Value, recognise & respect the diversity, expertise & experience of individuals, families, carers, groups & communities (Knowledge 3d) Skills: Intellectual * use research-based concepts and critical explanations from social work and allied theoretical disciplines.
