Description: | Aims: The aim of this module is to enable students to reflect on their development as independent, reflective and critical practitioners, to identify and reflect upon the process of their own learning and to identify their future learning and professional development needs and how these might be met. Learning Outcomes: On completion of the unit the students should be able to: * Prepare for & work with individuals, families, carers, groups & communities to assess their needs & circumstances (Key Role 1); * Plan, carry out, review & evaluate social work practice with individuals, families, carers, groups, communities & other professionals (Key Role 2); * support individuals to represent their needs, views & circumstances (Key Role 3); * Students should be able to manage & be accountable, with supervision & support, for their own social work practice within your organisation (Key Role 5); * Demonstrate professional competence in social work practice (Key Role 6). Skills: Intellectual * use research-based concepts and critical explanations from social work and allied theoretical disciplines. (F,T,A) * skills for social work practice, their theoretical roots, the research evidence to support them and an ability to critically reflect upon their relevance for effectiveness in a range of intervention situations. Content: The teaching, learning and assessment take place in the context of the students 85 days in practice placement and include models of learning and development; learning style models and learning cycle dynamics; the challenge of anti-oppressive practice; understanding of self and its relationship to our professional role; integration of skills, knowledge, intuition and values; the nature of personal change and transitions; audit of current strengths and needs, future professional development and learning needs. |
