Description: | Aims: For students to satisfactorily evidence that they have met the required Practice Units and Value Requirements to achieve a pass to their Year 2 Practice Learning Placement. The Practice curriculum is based on the National Occupational Standards. These consist of 6 key roles which sub-divide into 22 Practice Units (PUs) alongside 7 Value Requirements (VRs). As students progress through the 3 levels of practice across the 3 years of the SWASS degree they will be involved in social work practice of increasing complexity, requiring sophisticated critical reflection and increased competence in conceptualising and applying theory, methods and academic knowledge. Evidence of the application of values must be provided in all practice and written work. In year 2 students will be required to provide evidence of practice in 16 Practice Units and 7 Value Requirements. Learning Outcomes: In year 2 students will be required to provide evidence of practice in 16 Practice Units and 7 Value Requirements. By the end of this Unit (placement) students will have learnt to: Practice Units Key Role 1 - Prepare for and work with individuals, families, carers, groups and communities to assess their needs and circumstances 1.1 Prepare for social work contact and involvement 1.2 Work with individuals, families, carers, groups and communities to help them make informed decisions 1.3 Assess needs and options to recommend a course of action Key Role 2 - Plan, carry out, review and evaluate social work practice with individuals, families, carers, groups, communities and other individuals 2.2 Interact with individuals, families, carers, groups and communities in a sustained manner to achieve change and development and to improve life opportunities 2.3 Prepare, produce, implement and evaluate plans with individuals, families, carers, groups, communities and professional colleagues 2.4 Support the development of networks to meet assessed needs and planned outcomes 2.5 Work with groups and/or individuals, families, carers and communities to promote individual growth, development and independence Key Role 3 - Support individuals to represent their needs, views and circumstances 3.1 Advocate with and on behalf of individuals, families, carers, groups and communities 3.2 Prepare for and participate in decision making forums 3.3 Work in accordance with statutory and legal requirements Key Role 4 - Manage risk to individuals, families, carers, groups, communities, self and colleagues 4.2 Assess potential risk to self and colleagues Key Role 5 - Manage and be accountable, with supervision and support, for your own social work practice within your organisation 5.1 Manage and be accountable for your own work (including use of supervision) 5.3 Manage, present and share records and reports. 5.4 Work within multi-disciplinary and multi-organisational teams, networks and systems. Key Role 6 - Demonstrate professional competence in social work practice. 6.1 Research, analyse, evaluate and use current knowledge of best social work practice. 6.2 Work within agreed standards of social work practice and ensure own professional development. Value Requirements VR1 - Identify and question your own values and prejudices, and their implications for practice VR2 - Respect and value uniqueness and diversity, and recognise and build strengths VR3 - Promote people's rights to choice, privacy, confidentiality and protection, while recognising and addressing the complexities of competing rights and demands. VR4 - Assist people to increase control of and improve the quality of their lives, while recognising that control of behaviour will be required at times in order to protect children and adults from harm. VRR5 - Identify, analyse and take action to counter discrimination, racism, disadvantage, inequality and injustice, using strategies appropriate to role and function VR6 - Practise in a manner that does not stigmatise or disadvantage either individuals, groups or communities VR7 - Work in alliance with service users and carers to ensure that their rights and interests are taken into account when planning and carrying out social work practice.
