Description: | Aims: To develop a critical awareness of the potential benefits/limitations and resistance to uptake of intelligent control systems, smart envelopes and buildings. Learning Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit, students should be able to: * Appraise the benefits of smart building strategies in low-carbon design. * Understand the key functional capabilities of smart buildings. * Examine the limitations of smart building strategies during implementation. * Explore the most appropriate smart building strategies for select building and occupancy typologies. Skills: * To review and critically appraise the cost/benefit of smart building strategies. (T, F, A) * To devise smart building strategies to meet specific design constraints. (T, F, A) * To present the complexity of smart building strategies to a multi-disciplinary audience.
