Description: | Aims: * To enable students to understand the implications of energy efficiency for business organizations. * To enable students to use information on energy efficiency and renewable energy measures to develop an energy efficiency programme or portfolio for organisations or businesses. Learning Outcomes: There are seven principal learning outcomes for this unit. On completion of this unit students should be able to: * Explain the role of energy efficiency and renewable energy in the context of a comprehensive framework to achieve GHG emission reduction targets. * Explain to an organisation how to achieve cost-effective energy efficiency * Explain to an organisation the benefits of a clean energy fund and incorporate within the business * Overcome the barriers to the diffusion of energy efficiency or renewable energy technologies within the business community. * Identify the range of cost-effective incentives (interventions) to encourage investment in energy efficient - low carbon technologies, related services, and/or behaviour change and assist in designing incentives. * Develop energy efficiency and renewable energy measures and determine their cost-effectiveness * Explain how to modify ratemaking practices for regulated utilities to promote energy efficiency investments. Skills: Problem solving, communication skills, time management. Content: The unit books will cover energy efficiency and renewable energy, emission reduction targets with minimal impact on economy and policies. Identify the market failures, behavioural barriers and the range of incentives to encourage investment in energy efficient low carbon technologies, related services. Calculate the economic benefits of energy savings and determine their cost-effectiveness. Clean energy funds. |
