Description: | NB. Students wishing to take this unit should visit the Foreign Languages Centre website for information regarding enrolment. Aims: This unit aims to consolidate and extend language already acquired, for example in Stage 2 (or equivalent) and to improve students' communicative skills in a wide range of contexts. Learning Outcomes: On completion of the course students will be able to: * Express themselves in Arabic in a wide range of sentence structures and phrases. * Understand a range of spoken Arabic beyond common courtesy and survival requirements. * Read passages about familiar topics. * Write short passages using a variety of vocabulary. Skills: * Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing (all assessed). * Interpersonal and communication skills (facilitated) * Intercultural skills (facilitated). * Autonomous learning (facilitated) * Research and organisational skills (facilitated). Content: The course consolidates previously acquired language structures and skills and further develops the four competences of listening, speaking, reading and writing. In addition, more complex language structure will be introduced. The course will cover specific information relevant to countries where the target language is spoken including current events, political systems and regional differences. The course will further develop fluency, spontaneity and constructive reasoning though in class discussions. |
