Aims: To act as a support mechanism for the Dissertation Project. Learning Outcomes: In completing this unit, students will have: * Engaged with cutting edge contemporary issues framing the research process; * Engaged with the most recent social science knowledges within sport and physical activity; * Critically reflected on their own Dissertaiton research in relation to the social, political, economic, educative context; * Produced a detailed plan of their project, in relation to contemporary research issues and contextual knowledge; * Defended their project to a wide audience. Skills: * Comprehensive and scholarly written communication (e.g. essays) F/A * Ability to select, analyse and present numerical data. A * Ability to select, summarise and synthesis written information from multiple sources. F/A * Ability to develop rigorous arguments through precise use of concepts and models. F/A * Ability to select and use appropriate ideas to produce a coherent response to a pre-set question. F/A * Ability to formulate a research question, then develop and present an original & coherent answer. F/A * Ability to produce work to agreed specifications and deadlines. Content: * Contemporary & Current Issues in Social Research * Contemporary Topics and Debates in Sport & Physical Activity Research * Staff Research Presentations * Display and feedback of Project via Annual poster display * Attendance at research seminars. |
