Description: | Aims: This design project is based on an industrial process and is intended to give an introduction to a systematic approach to chemical engineering design. Learning Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students the student should be able to compare alternative routes for a process by technical/economic reasoning; understand a process flowsheet and perform mass and energy balances for the process; be able to consider process optimisation, cost estimates and preliminary safety and hazard analysis. Plan and organise the use of group time. Prepare specification sheets for an individual process unit designed by the student. Skills: Analysis, synthesis problem solving and design. Group work. Taught/facilitated and assessed. Content: Working as a team and project management; Making process decisions and exploring the consequences; use online chemical engineering resources. |
