Description: | Aims: * To explore how knowledge, concepts, research methodology, and skills from empirically supported and contemporary theories of human motivation enhance understanding of health and well-being within physical activity domains. * To examine and synthesise key theoretical and applied issues as they relate to applying motivation knowledge to important issues, problems and challenges within physical activity domains. Learning Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to demonstrate: * a critical understanding of the innovative and impactful contributions of motivation research to knowledge and practice. * a critical and comprehensive awareness of the skills and processes required to translate scientific research into practical motivational strategies targeted at enhancing health and well-being within and across physical activity domains. * a better understanding of the relevance and benefits to motivation research and practice of engaging with a range of public health stakeholders. * an appreciation of how motivation research fits within contemporary physical activity research (e.g., interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary, transdisciplinary). Skills: Knowledge and Understanding * To recognise the role of motivation research as it relates to physical activity enquiry and application (T/F/A). Intellectual Skills * Problem solving (T/F/A); * Integrating and managing levels of evidence (T/F/A); * To think creatively and analytically (T/F/A); * Numeracy (T/F/A); * To communicate an argument (T/F/A). Professional Practice Skills * To work independently and in groups (F); * To make connections between theory and practice; and between research and professional knowledge in physical activity contexts (T/F/A). Content: Advancing knowledge of key theories of human motivation, contemporary issues and debates, application of theory to practice, research methodologies. Grant application writing. |
