Description: | Aims: To provide students with the knowledge and critical understanding of the scientific principles of biomechanics of human movement and to enhance the ability to measure and analyse quantities related to human motion. Learning Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will be able to: * Demonstrate knowledge and critical understanding of kinematic and kinetic principles related to human movement. * Use appropriate approaches and techniques to address, interpret and critically analyse human movement from a kinematic and kinetic perspective. * Use kinematic and kinetic measurement devices to record and analyse human movements in a directed group situation. * Effectively collect data and communicate scientific information, arguments and analysis starting from a directed laboratory experience or a case-study scenario. Skills: Knowledge and Understanding - taught, facilitated and assessed Intellectual Skills - taught, facilitated and assessed Practical Skills - taught, facilitated and assessed Communication - taught, facilitated and assessed Numeracy - taught, facilitated and assessed Data acquisition, Handling and Analysis - taught, facilitated and assessed Information Technology - facilitated and assessed Problem Solving - taught, facilitated and assessed Working Independently - facilitated Working as part of a group - facilitated Content: Linear and angular kinematics: laws of motion (linear and angular), relationship between linear and angular quantities. Linear kinetics: force, work, energy, power and inertia in human movement. Angular kinetics: moment, moment of inertia, angular momentum in human movement. State of the art equipment for the kinematic and kinetic analysis of human movement. |
