| Description:
| Aims: This unit aims to introduce students to applied research skills required to analyse operations, logistics and supply chains. It also creates an opportunity to integrate the concepts, techniques and skills acquired from the various taught units in solving a practical business problem. Learning Outcomes: By the end of the unit students should be able to: * Demonstrate awareness of different methodologies and how to use them * Apply different methods in the identification and solution of practical problems * Show an awareness of the importance of research for both academia and practice, for example in consultancy. Skills: Intellectual skills * Capability to handle complex data sets (T, F, A) * Critical analysis and application of existing theories and concepts (T, F, A) * Ability to use academic literature alongside real life cases (T, F, A) Practical skills * Ability to engage with organisations (F, A) * Ability to select and present material according to objectives and audience (F, A) Transferable skills * Time management (F) * Communication skills (F, A) Content: This unit aims to be very applied, introducing students to a range of research strategies and techniques in the context of operations, logistics and supply chain management. It will integrate academic content with practical skills such as interviewing, presenting and teamwork. Key topics to be covered include: engaging with the academic literature; understanding different methodologies and when they are appropriate; as well as more practical sessions on identifying and collecting relevant data and problem solving. |
