| Aims: This unit aims to extend students' knowledge of supply chain and logistics management by building on knowledge acquired in Supply Chain Management and Business Logistics Management to introduce more detailed theories and techniques. In particular, we will examine issues from different global perspectives including issues of policy and culture. Learning Outcomes: At the end of the unit, students should be able to: * Integrate their knowledge from semester 1 to build a more detailed, critical and practical understanding of issues in supply management * Understand policies and issues facing SCM managers from both national and global perspectives * Evaluate options (including technological) available to SCM managers in different contexts Skills: Intellectual skills * Capability to critically evaluate different theories, practices and tools relevant to the management of global supply chains (T, A) * Understanding of the opportunities and constraints offered by global supply networks (T, F, A) Practical skills * Ability to analyse the challenges facing an organisation's supply chain (T, F) * Application of models, tools and techniques that are relevant to both supply chain managers and management consultants (F, A) Transferable skills * Ability to manage and work in teams with an awareness of issues such as culture and gender, to identify learning/working styles and to use these to the benefit of the individual and the team (F) * Facility to communicate, preparation and production of effective business reports (T, F, A) Content: This unit extends the knowledge accumulated in semester 1 in Supply Chain Management and Business Logistics Management to explore key topics in more depth. It will cover these such as new product development, sustainable supply management and issues relating to innovation and technology. The unit seeks to provide rigorous academic content that may be readily applied in practical supply management situations. |
