Description: | Aims: This unit aims to provide the students with the experience of all stages of a research project, including the problem definition, literature review, methodology selection, and analysis. The research project may be based upon a real world problem from a sponsor company. Learning Outcomes: At the end of this unit, students will be able to: * Identify (or define) a business analytics problem in a chosen area of interest * Solve the problem by choosing appropriate techniques from the literature or developing their own solution method * Interpret the results of the method used, derive managerial insights, and suggest courses of action * Do all the above in written form in a dissertation that conforms to acceptable standards of presentation and expression Skills: Intellectual skills: * Develop rigorous arguments through precise use of concepts and models (F, A) * Synthesise multidisciplinary perspectives to develop alternative solutions for a problem (F, A) Practical skills: * Comprehensive and scholarly written communication (F, A) * Select, analyse and present numerical or non-numerical data(F, A) Transferable skills: * Produce work to agreed specifications and deadlines (F, A) * Work independently, without close supervision of guidance (F, A) Content: The dissertation may address any business analytics problem that can be addressed within the timescale. The dissertation should include a discussion of the methodology employed in its production and will often make explicit reference to at least one important solution methodology covered as part of the Certificate or Diploma stage of the programme. It will be the students' responsibility to choose their research area, organize their research activities and negotiate access with other organizations if required. |
