Description: | Aims: To introduce the student to the practical techniques used to study the autonomic nervous system, neurotransmission in smooth muscles and the cardiovascular system. To develop scientific communication skills. Learning Outcomes: After successfully completing this unit, students will be able to: * Demonstrate knowledge of the methods available to study drug effects on these systems. * Analyse and present pharmacological data. Skills: Scientific and practical skills (T/F) Analysis of experimental data (T/F/A) Library study skills (T/F) , Working with others (T/F) Problem solving (T/F), Oral communication (F/A). Content: Investigation of the effect of parasympathetic and sympathetic neurotransmission on isolated tissue preparations (e.g. cholinergic receptors, ganglion blocking drugs and muscarinic receptor antagonists). Perform analysis of experimental data. Presentation and communication skills. |
