Description: | Aims: To build upon basic skills acquired in PA20291 and familiarise the student with a broader range of pharmacological assays; to investigate the principles of measurement required in experimental pharmacology; to further develop the skills required for analysing and reporting scientific information in written reports. Learning Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will be able to: * Perform appropriate dilutions of drug solutions. * Set up simple tissues for measurement of physiological responses. * Carry out standard pharmacological assays. * Analyse continuous and quantal data. * Report data in scientific journal style. Skills: Study skills, planning and organisation (T/F) Working with others (T/F) Practical skills (T/F/A) Scientific report writing skills (T/F/A). Content: The topics in this unit include basic experimental techniques and recording equipment; molarities; dose-response curves using in vitro preparations; behavioural observations. |
