Description: | Aims: To provide students with an opportunity to advance their practical knowledge by participating in lectures, field visits and laboratory exercises. To provide opportunities for students to participate in group activities and develop higher level skills relevant to industry managers. To provide opportunities for students to meet staff who teach and support the programme and for 'face to face' discussions. To provide networking opportunities. Learning Outcomes: After successfully completing this unit, students will be able to apply the academic content of the programme in a real world context. Students will have practical experience of working in laboratories. Skills: Hands on technical skills from the laboratory exercises. Acquisition of practical knowledge by participating in the unit activities. Content: There are three residential schools, each running over 5 days and hosted at the University of Bath campus. With the exception of laboratory exercises and group feedback which are conducted separately for Residentials 1/2/3 respectively, other activities are combined for all students. Content includes lectures by prominent speakers from the power industry, field visits, laboratory activities, a librarian-led tutorial on research tools and methods, dissertation presentations by the final year students and group feedback at the last session of the final day. |
