Description: | Aims: To evaluate the processes and stages of career-long professional development through theoretical and contemporary perspectives. To emphasise the importance of reflecting critically on a work based placement. To evaluate and apply key theoretical concepts and stages associated with critical reflection to a specific work based placement. To promote the acquisition of knowledge that will form the foundations of a research project proposal. Learning Outcomes: By the end of this unit a student will be able to: 1. Evaluate the importance of critical reflection within the context of continuing professional development. 2. Demonstrate competence in applying key theoretical concepts associated with critical reflection towards a specific work based placement. 3. Demonstrate a sound understanding of the key requirements for constructing and presenting a work based research project proposal. Skills: Personal development skills, professional skills relevant to employment and academic skills associated with the construction and presentation of a project proposal. Content: * Understanding theoretical concepts associated with critical reflection. * Application of critical reflection within a work based environment. * Rationale and justification for selecting a proposed area of research in relation to the work based research proposal. * Understanding data collection techniques, justifying 'best' methods to generate data. * Understanding sampling, identifying suitable participants and ethical issues that arise when constructing a work based project proposal. * Understanding the importance of applying relevant theory to support a work based project proposal, highlighting the use and relevance of a literature review when constructing a project proposal. |
