Description: | Aims: To develop the key conceptual knowledge of contemporary advanced physiology and investigate specific contemporary applied practices that utilise the advanced physiology concepts in a sports performance environment. Learning Outcomes: At the end of this unit students will be able to: * Effectively identify contemporary sports performance training practices. * Discuss the underpinning physiology from an exercise and sports perspective. * Analyse, reflect, evaluate and critically appraise the training practices and their relevance to a specific sports performance context. Skills: Reading, Analysis, Interpretation, Application, Communication. Content: * Kinetics and kinematics, human muscle function (force profiles), exercise specificity * Physiological adaptations of strength and endurance training, the concept of concurrent training implications. * Training on unstable / stable surfaces. Theory and rationale of vibration training. * Altitude training. * Trunk anatomy considerations of training and mid section stability. * Flexibility training, assessment and development techniques. * Physiomechanical aspects of plyometric training. * Speed agility and quickness training. * Post activation potentiation. * Recovery strategies managing fatigue. (cryotherapy, hydrotherapy). |
