Description: | Aims: To use dynamic modelling tools optimally and manage the design tensions of building physics parameters during the design process. Learning Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit, students should be able to: * Recognise what a dynamic model is compared to a non-dynamic model. * Be able to differentiate between precision and accuracy during dynamic simulation. * Examine the impact of errors in variables when appraising outputs. * Understand the Integrated Environmental Solutions (IES) interface. Skills: * To have modelled a simple building. (T, F, A) * Explore different low-carbon options. (T, F, A) * To resolve conflicting environmental design drivers. (T, F, A) * To align computational modelled output to environmental design drivers. (T, F, A) * To present holistic low-carbon performance options to a multi-disciplinary audience. (T, F, A) Content: * Introduction to modelling and how to solve problems. * Why simulate or model? * Comparing generic model types. * Model selection: timeframe, detail, appropriateness. * Input data: Designer/driver/computational inputs. * Modelled vs monitored. * Algorithms: Assumptions and errors. * Introduction to IES. * Undertaking parametric analysis. * Interpreting and validating output(s). |
