Description: | Aims: This unit aims to: * give each student the experience of a real engineering design situation as part of a group. * locate the contribution of the engineer, whether in design, R&D, manufacture, in the context of securing the firms broad commercial goals by means of effective product and market related policies and practices. * introduce the student to team working. * introduce financial management procedures, marketing, ethics, risk assessment and business law. Learning Outcomes: After successfully completing this unit a student will be able to: Demonstrate a detailed knowledge and understanding of the technical process that is engineering design. Demonstrate a detailed knowledge and understanding of the business and entrepreneurial aspects of engineering. Worked in a multi-disciplinary disciplinary design team to develop the system design concept and technical feasibility study. Skills: Problem solving (F/A); numeracy (T/F/A); written communication (A); oral communication (F/A); working as part of a group (F/A); leadership (F/A). Content: Evaluation study. Business lectures and workshops on financial management procedures, marketing, ethics, risk assessment and business law. Case studies. |
