Description: | Aims: To develop an understanding of the behaviour of soil, and the factors that influence that behaviour. Learning Outcomes: On successful completion of the unit, the student should be able to demonstrate understanding, and an ability to apply that understanding, in the subjects detailed in the 'Contents' section. Skills: Basic soil mechanics laboratory technique, graphical and algebraic analytical methods. Content: * Soil classification and description * Volumetric relations * Total and effective stress * Strength and deformation behaviour of soils * Consolidation and compressibility * Seepage and flow through soils. |
