![]() | Aims: To provide an overview of satellite navigation systems. Learning Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will be able to (i) describe the system level architecture of a satellite based navigation system (ii) have a detailed knowledge of how a satellite navigation receiver works (iii) have a detailed knowledge of the factors limiting the accuracy of a satellite based navigation system (iv) describe in detail a number of different user applications for the system. Skills: Engineering system design, navigation receiver hardware function, practical assessment of real systems, taught, facilitated and assessed. Content: * Introduction to satellite navigation systems * Basic algorithms for positioning * Signals * Receiver hardware overview * Signal acquisition * Phase locked loop/ delay locked loop * Basic signal tracking * Advanced signal tracking * Demodulation of navigation information. * Phase and code * Advanced positioning algorithms * Geodetic positioning for high precision * Real world applications * Threats to satellite navigation: space weather, jamming, spoofing. * Future of satellite based navigation systems. |
