Description: | Aims: To develop laboratory and field based practical skills in assessing health and function. Learning Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will be able to: * Demonstrate a critical understanding of the key components of human function and appropriate laboratory and field-based methods of health and function assessment. * Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the risks of exercise and the importance of health screening. * Describe the principles of Good Clinical Practice, including ethics, risk assessment, quality control and standard operating procedures. * Conduct a range of clinical and functional assessments. Content: Health screening, risks of exercise and ethical practice Testing procedures: blood pressure, electrocardiogram, metabolic rate, body composition, oral glucose tolerance, fitness assessment using submaximal exercise tests, balance testing, kinanthropometry, qualitative movement analysis, clinical gait analysis. |
