Description: | Aims: In this unit students solve a wide variety of problems from the real world by calling on knowledge from areas which are generally taught separately in the Physics curriculum. The unit aims to develop analytical problem solving skills and a deeper level of overall understanding. Learning Outcomes: After taking this unit the student should be able to: * confidently apply knowledge of Mechanics, Vibrations and Waves, Thermal Physics, Electromagnetism, Quantum Theory and Mathematics to solve "real world" problems; * apply systematic methods and logical reasoning to general problem solving; * make and justify models and approximations in calculations. Skills: Written Communication T/F A, Numeracy T/F A, Information Technology T/F A, Problem Solving T/F A, Working as part of a group T/F A. Content: Problems with a wide range of content (covering the core of undergraduate Physics) and styles (qualitative, quantitative, mathematical, Fermi problems, etc.). |
