Description: | Aims: Introduce the principles of building and analysing linear models, introduce the principles of statistical modelling. Learning Outcomes: After taking this unit, students will be able to: * Carry out data analyses with linear Gaussian models using R. * Understand the theory of linear models as a principled guide to data analysis. Skills: Numeracy T/F A Problem Solving T/F A Computing Skills T/F A Written and Spoken Communication F (in tutorials). Content: Mulitple Regression: Estimation of model parameters, hypothesis tests and confidence intervals, prediction with assessment uncertainty. Modelling of categorical predictors as factors and the meaning of main effects and interaction. Model diagnostics using residuals, leverage and points. Detection and handling of outliers. Model selection and transformation of variables. Orthogonality and identifiability. Interpretation of regressionb coefficients and causality. |
