Description: | Aims: To learn new mathematical topics or to apply new or previously acquired knowledge. The project description will state the mathematical material to be studied or the type of application. Learning Outcomes: * To be able to learn independently or to transfer knowledge into unfamiliar situations in a spirit of critical enquiry. * To understand the requirements for academic writing, including referencing and the appropriate use of graphs, diagrams and tables. * To demonstrate academic writing skills within the production of a project dissertation. * To be able to give a presentation of the project work. (All of the above will be taught, facilitated and assessed.) Skills: Independent study, report writing and presentation. Content: The programme of study for each project will be that defined by the project description. Individual project supervisors provide academic direction and tutorial support during the project. This will include direction to appropriate academic material and skills training that may be required by the student. |
