Description: | Aims: The aim of this unit is to enable BSc students who have previously undertaken a laboratory-based placement to further enhance their professional skills through the completion of a literature-based research project focused on the development of appraisal and presentational skills. Learning Outcomes: At the end of the unit the student will be able to: 1. demonstrate an ability to carry out research around a scientific hypothesis 2. effectively analyse and appraise literature sources to support their hypothesis 3. present the findings and conclusions in the format of a research grant application Skills: Study skills, handling information (T/F/A) Written communication skills (T/F/A) Cognitive skills (T/F/A) Content: Small groups of students will be offered a choice of research project from a wide range of topics in pharmacology. The assessment will be a research grant proposal, using an abridged version of the form provided by the Wellcome Trust. |
