Description: | Aims: The aim of the unit is to provide an understanding of translational science and how to bring fundamental research into the clinic. The objective will be to develop a knowledge and understanding of specific topics encompassing membrane biophysics, atypical models for pharmacological evaluation of novel therapeutic agents, quantitative diagnostics and prognosis and application of these to clinical trials. Learning Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit the student should be able to: * explain the importance of individual profiling of patients to determine appropriate treatments; * critically evaluate the use of cutting-edge analytical tools for analysing the functional events in the dysregulation of various pathologies; * demonstrate the ability to analyse clinical trial data. Skills: Numeracy (F, A), Problem solving (T, F, A), Scientific writing (F, A), Independent working (F). Content: An in depth treatment of selected topics covering advances in molecular signalling to include: * Basic introduction to interdisciplinary science delivered online 2hr * Membrane biophysics * Marine Model Organisms * Advanced Cell biology and signalling * Functional genomics and proteomics * Advanced quantitative imaging. |
