Requisites:
Learning Outcomes: By the end of this unit, the student should be able to understand and provide potential recommendations for improvement to the following key issues:
* how individual differences shape group dynamics that can define organizational cultures and ultimately impact organizational outcomes;
* how people-related decisions are linked to, and contribute to the organizational and individual wellbeing;
* how people influence and are influenced by contemporary concerns about responsible business;
* how digital technologies are revolutionising the way we think and interact at work.

Aims: To provide a wide and introductory analysis of the role of managing people in contemporary organizations especially with attention to issues of responsible business' demands and expectations, the widespread use and impact of digital technology, and the challenges and opportunities of a diverse workforce.
Theoretical insights will be applied to key organizational phenomena such as impression management, processes of exerting influence rather than simply exercising authority, various forms of leadership, and evolving understandings of organizational and societal culture.

Skills:
* The ability to critically analyse people-related situations using appropriate theoretical models, allied to pragmatic, well-reasoned judgements;
* The facility to apply and integrate subject-specific knowledge, informed by academic research, into a range of complex situations;
* Operate effectively within teams as well as independently, assuming leadership roles where appropriate;
* Apply practical decision-making methods and tools at both tactical and strategic levels
* An ability to reflect on their earlier learning and practice, so as to integrate new knowledge with past experience and effectively apply it to new situations;
* An ability to develop a holistic perspective on an organisation and an awareness of the diversity of people within it.

Content: The course will look at fundamentals of individuals' differences in organizations to highlight behaviours, relations, processes and structures that are a part of organisational life.

Drawing on classical and contemporary social science literature, the unit aims to develop students' awareness and understanding of the major theoretical concepts that are (or have been) used to analyse organisations, groups and individuals.

The course will look at applications of these concepts in influence, leadership, and culture with particular attention to the demands of creating and managing responsible businesses and of operating with digital technology.

The content includes lectures, case studies, videos and interactive exercises undertaken in groups. The content may change to take account of recent developments and for timetabling reasons.
