Learning Outcomes:
  1. Identify and discuss current population level dietary recommendations, recognising the nutrition needs of different population groupsĀ 
  2. Compare different methods of dietary assessment, identifying and using the most appropriate to calculate individual energy needs
  3. Critically evaluate and synthesise evidence to support or challenge popular nutrition beliefs
  4. Discuss key population and individual level challenges related to nutrition
  5. Recognise how policy is used to influence population level dietary intakes and appraise public health campaigns focused on nutrition



Aims: To understand the impact of nutrition on health and disease, identify healthy nutrition behaviours and key public health challenges in relation to diet.

Content: Basic introduction to nutrition, UK dietary reference values, dietary analysis, over and under nutrition (including obesity and eating disorders), public health challenges in relation to nutrition, changes in nutritional requirements across the lifespan (babies through to older adults) and special population groups (pregnant, athletes, allergies), nutrition policy, public health campaigns to improve diet.
