Requisites:
Learning Outcomes: After successfully completing this unit, you will be able to: 1. Select a suitable sensor type for a particular measurement application. 2. Describe the characteristics of elementary DC and AC electrical circuits and components 3. Design basic amplification circuits and analogue filters. 4. Describe the characteristics of microcontrollers and real-time computer systems 5. Write simple programs for a typical microcontroller 6. Design a data acquisition and measurement system and validation experiment showing an appreciation of noise/sampling/resolution issues, and experimental uncertainty.


Synopsis: You will explore the principles and technology for embedding electronic control in mechanical systems, with an emphasis on sensing and measurement.

Content: Electrical fundamentals Analysis and presentation of data in MATLAB Sensors and measurement, Microcontrollers Microcontroller Programming Topics for self-study that could be assessed
