Learning Outcomes: By the end of the unit, you will be able to: 1. Understand the many areas in which a retail organisation is operating 2. Understand the market in which the retail organisation operates 3. Analyse retail organisations, the retail market and supply chains 4. Understand how the retail organisation differs from other types of organisations


Synopsis: Explore the core of retailing. You will explore the core concepts and contemporary challenges of retailing. Semester 1 takes a comprehensive strategic perspective. Semester 2 focuses on retail operations. This unit is a collaboration with the retailing industry to bridge the gap between retail strategy, operations and academic research.

Content: The unit will look at the eight most important strategies for retail companies: locations, range, value, people, market communication, logistics, suppliers and systems. All these strategies will also be discussed with examples and how they could be implemented and measured.
