Learning Outcomes: On successful completion of the unit, you will be able to:
  • Assess the role of professional organisations and the legislative and ethical frameworks within which the engineer is expected to operate. (K4)
  • Identify appropriate techniques to manage projects through planning, finance, contract procedures and quality systems. (K1,I2)
  • Evaluate the risks possessed within various contractual agreements and by site based construction processes to the successful completion of the project. (PT2)

Synopsis: Study the foundations of the practice of project and construction management and its role in civil engineering. This includes management principles, legal frameworks, health and safety, project management, planning and construction processes.

Health and safety - personal safety, H&S legislation, emerging technologies in H&S, welfare and well-being Procurement, resource planning and logistics
