After taking this unit the student should be able to:
* Understand the basic concepts of fluid mechanics. * Apply the continuity, momentum and Bernoulli's equations to engineering problems. * Use dimensional analysis. |
Aims: | To introduce the student to more basic equations of fluid mechanics and to apply the equations to engineering problems. |
Skills: | Problem solving; numeracy; working independently. |
Content: | Stress and viscosity; fluid statics; pressure, forces and moments; fluid kinematics; continuity equation; Bernoulli equation; Bernoulli equation with losses and external work; momentum equation for a control volume; dimensional analysis and similarity; introduction to Flight. Thermofluids laboratory experiment. |
