At the completion of this unit the student will be able to:
* Evaluate the strategy of business organisations (i2) * Demonstrate a critical understanding of economic constraints that affect management decisions (K1) * Analyse key financial statements of business organisations and prepare cash budgets (K2, i2) * Appraise the role of budgets in an organisation (i2) * Critically assess the contribution of HRM to organisational performance (i2) * Identify key components of a business plan and develop ideas for new businesses (i6; P2) * Apply decision making techniques to management problems (i5; P1). |
Aims: | This unit aims to provide students with a solid grounding in the key managerial disciplines that will enable them to understand how operational performance is managed and enhanced and how the strategy of organisations is developed in relation to their internal capabilities and external environments. |

Content: | Business Economics Fundamentals (the competitive environment, models of market structure, pricing and competition); Strategy; HR Management (strategic HRM - development and main models, links between HRM and organisation performance, international HRM); Accounting and Finance Fundamentals (the accounting process, the format and interpretation of a profit and loss account, balance sheet and cash flow statements, budgeting, sources of finance); Entrepreneurship and Innovation. |
