  • Recognise the role that analytics techniques can play in the solution of management problems.
  • Identify problems that are amenable to these techniques.
  • Understand and apply the key statistical techniques that underpin business analytics.
  • Communicate effectively with specialists in management science and operational research.



Synopsis: Explore how modern analytics techniques can support and improve business decision making by giving insights and suggesting solutions to problems. This unit will also help you to identify problems to apply these techniques to. You'll develop skills to communicate effectively with specialists in management science and operational research.

Content: The unit will cover both fundamental statistical techniques and more advanced business analytics topics. Likely topics include:
  • Data collection and data types
  • Descriptive statistics
  • Probability theory and probability distributions. Applications to decision trees
  • Sampling methods and distributions
  • Confidence intervals
  • Correlation and bivariate and multiple regression
  • Time series analysis
  • Applications to statistical quality control.
