Requisites: | Before taking this module you must take MN50294 |
Learning Outcomes: |
By the end of the unit, the students should be able further to:
* understand principles of research design and appreciate alternative approaches to research; * show competency in the use of multiple / mixed method research designs and techniques within the management discapline * produce a Report of academic and professional merit that defines and answers a research question/questions using relevant theory and data. |
Aims: | This unit is designed to demonstrate through a practical research how both qualitative and quantitative methods can be applied jointly to the development and empirical examination of phenomena, problems, propositions and/or hypothesis across a range of management fields. As such, the unit acts as a vehicle that draws together empirically what is learned in a more theoretical and non-applied manner in other research training units. |
Skills: | On completion of the unit, candidates should be able to:
* Identify potential research topics from existing journal papers * Develop theoretical models and testable hypotheses * Identify germane dependent and independent variables * Use qualitative and quantitative methods to identify, develop and construct latent and proxy measures for variables * Develop and design practical research operationalisations, including population identification, sampling, instrument design, development, testing, and administration * Input, clean and manipulate data * Select appropriate statistical analyses to test data validity and hypotheses * Develop and draft a paper for submission to a scholarly journal * Collaborate with fellow academics in all of the above. |
Content: | This unit's content will directly reflect the learning outcomes enumerated above, with students working under the direct supervision of the professor to identify, execute, write-up a rigorous piece of theoretically-based, empirical research combining both qualitative and quantitative research. |
