Learning Outcomes: - Demonstrate an understanding of how to identify reliable sources in politics. - Produce a literature review and academic bibliography. - Illustrate the ability to reference and cite texts correctly. - Show an understanding of how to read academic texts in politics and an understanding of the purpose of political research and essay writing.


Synopsis: Explore the essential skills required for the study of political phenomena. Starting from the question of what it is we do when we study politics, you will learn practical skills such as how to read academic articles, how to research around political topics, and how to produce an academic essay on political questions. Youll study this unit in tandem with the two introductory units of Politics and International Relations.

Content: This unit introduces students to the central academic tools required to study politics at a university degree level. We will discuss what it is we seek to do when we study politics; how to identify reliable sources in politics; how to undertake a literature review; how to write an essay; how to produce a bibliography; and how to reference and cite sources correctly.
