By the end of the unit, you will be able to:
1. Reflect on personal CPD needs and have started to maintain a learning portfolio to support graduate outcomes required by the General Pharmaceutical Council.
2. Have an awareness of the professional responsibilities of the pharmacist, and the roles of pharmacy supporting staff.
3. Demonstrate use of library and appropriate computing facilities in the University to research and to write essays and laboratory reports in a scientific style.
4. Be able to perform pharmaceutical calculations calculate basic statistical distributions and summarise data.
5. Demonstrate the ability to work effectively within a team.
6. Show how to obtain informed consent before providing care and pharmacy services.
7. Communicate with and counsel patients on medication and the use of different pharmaceutical dosage forms.
8. Have a knowledge of current pharmaceutical legislation sufficient to be able to screen NHS and private prescriptions for legality and enable dispensing.
9. Handover legally and clinically checked prescription medication under supervision in practice. |
Synopsis: | Explore the pharmacy profession, and the responsibilities of professional practice. Gain an appreciation of graduate outcomes required by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), and start developing a continuing professional development (CPD) e-portfolio to enable you to demonstrate these outcomes upon eventual graduation. You will be introduced to practice-based learning through clinical placements, and be introduced to pharmaceutical legislation relevant to the safe supply of medicines. |
