Learning Outcomes: By the end of this unit students will be able to:
* Critically engage with the plural histories of 'global development' in Latin America, (East and South) Asia, the Middle East and Africa
* Appreciate how the interplay between the Global Development project and alternative ideas, forces and histories have shaped contemporary development in different world regions
* Critically assess contemporary development challenges based on region-specific knowledge and experiences
* Draw comparisons between development experiences across cases from different regions/areas


Synopsis: Gain an introduction to local, national and regional perspectives on development as a global project. Emphasis is put on plurality, historical context and path-dependence of world regions. You will explore tensions and complementarities emerging from global development ideas and local/national/regional forces.
