Synopsis: Gain an introduction to the principles and values of social work and a grounding in the social research methods required to undertake research in an applied social work context. You will be introduced to techniques around research design and quantitative and qualitative approaches to social work research.

* Essentials of quantitative and qualitative research methods in the social sciences;
* Formulating research questions;
* Reviewing relevant literature;
* Critical appraisal skills;
* Defining and measuring outcomes;
* Using evidence to inform practice;
* Ethics in research.
