Develop a fundamental understanding of the properties of traditional and innovative building materials and their potential application in the conservation and repair of heritage assets.
Ability to select appropriate techniques and materials for use in specific applications. Ability to apply skills, techniques and methods learned and to exercise initiative in recommending the use of materials and technologies to sustain the built environment. Analyse and critique complex historic and environmental issues systematically and creatively, and demonstrate both self-direction, teamwork and originality in tackling problem solving. Consolidate, extend and apply knowledge gained and contribute advances to the body of knowledge in the field of conservation theory and practice. |
Synopsis: | Develop your knowledge and understanding of the practice, philosophies, issues, application and characteristics and decay of traditional and innovative building materials, including building techniques, skills and tools for the conservation of historic buildings and cultural heritage, their sustainability and impact on the environment. |
