Learning Outcomes: By the end of this unit, you will be able to: demonstrate critical understanding of issues relating to defining the concept of international education demonstrate critical understanding of the concept of international schooling, and its relationship to the concept of international education critically analyse the relationship between values and ideologies, and how the underlying value system of a school relates to the curriculum and management style adopted demonstrate critical awareness of issues which are of particular relevance to students and teachers in the context of international education relate your understanding of issues arising from research in this context to your own experience and to the improvement of your own practice critically reflect upon the broader implications of international education practices, including your own, for example in terms of sustainable development and global citizenship education.


Synopsis: Learn about the growing and diverse world of international education. This unit supports anyone aspiring to teach, or currently teaching, in an international context. You will engage in critical discussions and debates related to the latest developments and trends in international schooling, international curricula, global citizenship education, and the internationalisation of Higher Education.

Content: This unit will engage students in a discussion, reflection and critical appreciation of: Values in education, both nationally and internationally (SDG4, 10,16) Culture and the curriculum The concept of an international curriculum The concept of international schools and international education The concept of global citizenship education (SDG 4) Some issues particularly relating to teachers and international education Some issues particularly relating to students and international education The development of a sustainable model for international education (SDG 4)
