Requisites:
Learning Outcomes: By the end of this unit students should be able to:
  • Characterization of random variables by the probability distribution and its properties
  • Understand the concepts of statistical estimators and their sampling distributions
  • Calculate point and interval estimates for population mean and variances
  • Explain and assess the properties of estimators (bias and efficiency)
  • Conduct hypothesis tests and interpret the results.



Synopsis: You will gain statistical knowledge fundamental to understanding of applied economic topics (i.e. testing of micro and macro models) and experience in analysis of data and a fuller understanding of probability and statistical inference techniques.

Content: Calculus and optimisation in economics; linear algebra; solution of linear systems of equations; integral calculus; eigenvalues and eigenvectors.
