Learning Outcomes: By the end of this unit students will be able to:
  • Understand and analyse models of dynamic games and performing related equilibrium analysis
  • Understand and evaluate different market structures, paying particular attention to the appropriate assumptions for the market structure under consideration
  • Identify the concepts and theories relevant to the situation under consideration
  • Analyse a model by employing systematic line of reasoning and draw meaningful conclusions
  • Critically evaluate a model, especially the key assumptions, in light of the conclusions



Synopsis: Explore key conceptual and theoretical frameworks for analysing different market structures, such as competitive equilibrium in exchange economies, markets with externalities, imperfect competition, and markets with asymmetric information. Youll study formal game theoretic tools to model and analyse strategic interactions between individuals or economic entities in sequential settings with an extended time horizon and complete information (such as in sequential market entry by competing firms).

Content: Dynamic games, pure exchange economy, externalities and public goods, homogeneous good monopoly, homogeneous good oligopoly, asymmetric information
