Learning Outcomes: Critically discuss the role of physical activity in the promotion of population health in the context of supportive literature and own clinical practice Synthesise evidence from a variety of sources to build an argument for why physical activity/exercise may be beneficial and how to support behaviour change Critically appraise a range of evidence sources appropriate to physical activity/exercise benefits, behaviour change, barriers and facilitators for clinical populations. Justify the effectiveness and the appropriateness of physical activity interventions Reflect on and evaluate interactions with clients and patients that aim to support behaviour change


Synopsis: Explore the role of exercise and physical activity in supporting a range of populations, including people living with chronic conditions. This unit will equip you with knowledge of motivational theory and applied behaviour change techniques to enhance the quality of your interactions with patients and clients. The unit also covers: - Benefits of physical activity for specific populations - Barriers to adopting active lifestyles - Supporting changes in physical activity and exercise behaviour

Content: The benefits of physical activity for specific populations Challenges faced when trying to adopt active lifestyles Motivational theory and the evidence base regarding the benefits, barriers and facilitators to changing physical activity behaviour or participating in exercise Effectively supporting change in physical activity and exercise behaviour.
