Learning Outcomes: |
By the end of the unit, you will be able to:
- Set up equations to describe the dynamic behaviour of simple electro-mechanical systems and find their natural and forced responses.
- Describe the influence of imperfections on buckling and determine buckling loads for simple mechanical systems.
- Calculate the skin friction and drag caused by boundary-layer flow over external surfaces, and the pressure losses in duct/pipe networks,
- Solve simple heat transfer problems of individual or combinations of conduction in solids, convection and radiation.
The unit contributes to the following AHEP 4th edition learning outcomes: C1,C2,C3.
|
Synopsis: | This unit introduces you to basic principles in key topics in mechanical engineering, such as solid mechanics, heat transfer, fluid flow, materials selection and manufacturing processes.
