Synopsis: Explore the relationship between business and society in terms of fundamental concepts in business law and how business decisions reflect social and environmental concerns. The approach to business and the skills you learn in this unit will provide a framework for the rest of your course.

Content: The unit content includes: You will consider a variety of important questions that arise from the relationship between business and society. By doing so, you will develop a rigorous and practical understanding of how corporate responsibilities can arise from ethical imperatives and strategic considerations. The scope and limits on corporate responsibilities are discussed across a broad range of social and environmental issues. The law element covers the framework of law, essential business contracts and non-contractual liability such as negligence. Students work through seminars in applying the principles to a range of case examples within their group, analysing and applying principles to practice.
