On completion of the Unit students shall be able to:
- Demonstrate a broad and consolidated knowledge of contemporary Francophone politics, societies and cultures;
- Compare and evaluate cultural artefacts across cultures;
- Identify, understand and engage with key contemporary debates relevant to Francophone countries in the Global North and South;
All of the above will contribute to developing cultural understanding and comprehensive oral and written communication skills.

Content: | Colonisation, decolonisation and the legacy of the French empire;
Political systems, democracy and authoritarianism in contemporary Francophone countries;
Globalisation, neocolonialism, international development and social change in the Francophone world;
Migration patterns and cultural identities in Francophone countries;
National cultures, transnationalism and international organisations;
International business culture(s) in the Francophone world;
Social movements, political protests and emancipation;
Transnational patterns of radicalisation and terrorism;
Research methods and the analysis of films, literary, political and media texts. |
